Attractive

Dennis's parents came up for Easter dinner today. Sam, Jack and Henry were happy that Grandma brought her Ipad.

Harbinger

Today, I saw this squirrel out on the front lawn, and I was struck by the realization that I haven't seen any squirrels in months. Spring must be close.

Sugar Season

These are some of the sap buckets beneath some of the many maples around here. I understand why a tree tapper would use plastic buckets and rubber hoses, but they just don't have the same sort of romance that a metal bucket hanging from a beautiful vintage spout has.

Nearly Forgotten

I've owned a Kindle Touch for close to a year; I've read two books on it. Dennis has an Ipad 2 for work, and I touch it only when there's nothing else available. My cell phone? A Motorola Flip Phone with a Trac Fone card. I sit down at my computer too much as it is. I don't want to spend the rest of my day staring at screens: especially TVs.

Slowed

Sam has come down with a cold and spent much of the day resting/napping in the recliner. Therefore, I was able to get a picture of him. By about 4:00, he was on the mend and on the move.

Glitter + Pink = Happy

I had so much fun creating my last art journal page, I got started on another right away.

Some Days...

... I could just kick myself. Luke and I brought Caddie to the vet this morning, and I put my camera (with the 70-300mm lens on it) in the car. When we got to the vet's office, the tree next to the front door was filled with little birds (I later learned they were house sparrows), and they didn't fly off when we pulled up. I pulled out the camera, and took shot after shot. It was not until I downloaded my photos later in the day that I realized the picture mode was set to grainy film. So much for bird pictures with great clarity. I keep telling myself to check the settings when I turn on the camera, but like my kids, I don't always listen.

Thursdays

Here's Stella, eyes glued to the TV. She was standing so still, I didn't even need a flash.

Vernal Equinox

Well, it's the first day of Spring, and the view from Dennis's window includes icicles, snow, clouds, blue sky and sunlight.

At Home in the Snow

Caddie models some of the snow we received today (and it's still coming down).

Around Town

When it was time to transfer Luke from the gym to the driving range, I brought my camera with me, just in case. I'm glad I did. Oh, by the way: Luke has his first job. He'll be picking up range balls a few nights a week for minimum wage.

Sudden Memory

It has been nearly ten years since I kicked gluten out of my life. For the most part, I don't miss it. If one thing tempts me, though, it's the thought of a pepperoni pizza with fresh tomatoes from the Wazee Supper Club in lower downtown Denver. My dear friend and former coworker Larry introduced me to the Wazee, and I visited often. This evening, I thought of my long-ago haunt while Dennis, Henry, Sam and I were enjoying some hot spaghetti sauce with mozzarella cheesesticks and tortilla chips. The fresh tomatoes on the counter sealed the deal.

Through the Window

This afternoon, I was upstairs taking pictures, when I looked out the window in Sam and Jack's room and noticed this scene outside.

Thursdays

Bridget had a knitting date at Barnes & Noble Café, so Stella and I dropped her off, then spent a little time looking at books. Some Spider-Man books caught Stella's attention, but not for long. After a minute or two, she turned to me and said, "Shall we move on to another section?" (No lie.) She went home with a new Lego Friends set that Jack helped her build. Oh, and later in the day, I pulled out a tube of lipstick (which I seldom wear) and showed her how it works. She had to give it a go, and giggled over the results.

The Pond

We once asked an excavation contractor about the drainage problems on our property. "You don't have drainage problems," he told us. I disagree. By the by, those pieces of slate make up our front walk, and I noticed today that much of the dirt holding them in place has gotten eroded by the water from "the pond."

Racing

Inspired by the many episodes of Top Gear UK they've watched, Henry and Sam have started racing around the house while seated on their Ripstiks. I just try to stay out of the way and keep Stella from getting run over.

A Sacrifice

Luke gave up candy for Lent, but that doesn't mean he's lost his sweet tooth. It means he's much more likely to volunteer to bake a cake or batch of cookies.

Procrastination

This is the clock in the hallway upstairs. I never bothered to set it back last Fall, which means that I didn't have to meddle with it today. I'd call that a thing of beauty.

A New Way to Spend Teatime

After nearly ten years participating in a Denver-based, online, Catholic homeschool group, I decided it was time to move on and start something new. Faith-Filled Learners is what I came up with. I think the welcome message says it all. If you know of Catholic homeschoolers looking for virtual company and conversation, please direct them here.

New Duds

Stella was absolutely thrilled when I came home from the store (Sam's Club, no less) with a new dress for her. It made her feel like a princess and a fairy, but it didn't stop her from hiding underneath Jack's bed. "You'll never, ever find me!" she yelled in that little, lilting voice of hers.
