Evening Games

Right after dinner Henry pulled out the Mad Libs. After that, I asked the kids if each of them would like to contribute to Michelle's wheelchair fund. They came up with $82 all together, and I added $80 from my allowance.

Today it rained, and this is the puddle next to the garage.

Chipping Away

We can now see more asphalt on the driveway than ice and snow. That is reason to celebrate.

On a slightly different note: I have a request. I recently learned about the plight of Tamara and her adopted daughter Michelle. You can get the whole story here. But the long and short of it is that Michelle, an 18-year-old survivor of Shaken Baby Syndrome, could really use a standing wheelchair. It costs about $45,000. Insurance would have paid for it, but the custom wheelchair got delivered two days after Tamara's husband retired from the military, and the insurance company refused to pay because of this technicality (Oh, and to top it off, Tamara suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and can no longer care lift Michelle and do her daily care.) Here's the request: will you please help this family chip away at that $45,000 by making a donation to their crowd funding campaign? Dennis and I have contributed (it was a simple process). The kids are checking their piggy banks, and I told them that I'd match whatever they can pool together. Thank you.

Learning Curve

Luke, Bridget, Sam, and I spent the evening in the high school parking lot, where I taught Luke and Bridget to drive a standard. Everyone (and everything) is still intact.

When Did She Grow Up?

I can't get over how old Stelly looks in this shot. Wasn't she just learning to talk?

Silver and Black

After months of looking, we found an Audi A4 (2004) with a six banger and a six-speed, manual transmission, and I get to drive it most of the time. (The minivan will get called into service whenever necessary.)

Greek Classic

I just finished reading The Iliad, for the second time. I read it for the first time my freshman year in college. It was much better the second time, and Robert Fagles's translation had everything in the world to do with it. Now it's on to The Odyssey.

It Can't Last Forever, Can It?

Winter seems so very long this year. The big storm we're expecting tomorrow likely won't help change that.

My Hero

Today when Stella found herself in a distressing situation, she was fortunate that BatJack was able to speed to her side and rescue her.
