A Good Evening for a Ride

I hope our neighbors weren't annoyed by the trips up and down the street. This evening, Jack, Bridget and I got rides on Dennis's bike.

Warning: Spiders

Our front door is sort of a mess: lots of spider webs and dead bugs. While I wince at the grossness of it, I can't really bring myself to evict our arachnid boarders, mainly because they eat insects, and I'll take the spiders over the insects. Two of the most interesting are these funnel spiders (note their funnel-shaped webs): one at the base of each sidelight. For those of you who are really freaked out about spiders, please accept my apologies.

Patience Pays Off

Today, I parked the minivan in the driveway out front, rolled down the window, and sat for about 30 minutes, photographing as much fauna as I could.

Resting Her Eyes

Can you imagine being so tired that you fall asleep with your face on the edge of a cherry desk? This afternoon, Stella was most certainly not "just resting her eyes" (as she often tells me she's doing — just like Nana used to). After I took these photos, I scooped up Stella, got comfy in a chair (with books and magazines nearby) and held her while she slept for at least another hour. It was nice.

A Pinterest Project

The other day, I repinned a tutorial for "reupholstering" a wing chair (without actually dismantling it), figuring I'd tackle the ugly one in our living room. Since there's no time like the present and I wanted to make sure I didn't actually give away the fabric I had recently added to the Goodwill box, I started and finished (Amazing!) the chair today. It's not perfect (for instance, I couldn't get the staple gun into some of the crevices to anchor the fabric tightly), but it's a lot better than it was, and the project cost me nothing but time.

Jack Joined Me

This afternoon, Jack found me in my studio, painting with Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay Ink, and he asked if he could join me (I knew he would). I've included some of his finished work here. You can see the art journal page I was creating here.

She's much larger and heavier than your average-sized doll, but that didn't stop Stella from climbing into her doll's wagon and having her brothers push and pull her around the house.

The kids and I joined some friends at Damariscotta Lake this afternoon, but we weren't there long before a thunderstorm closed the beach. Our day wasn't ruined, though. We headed back towards home and on to the ice cream shop and playground.
