Stella had brown rice spaghetti for lunch. A piece of it is still stuck in her hair, and I'll probably find some in the washer. After Bridget took off Stella's pasta-covered clothing, the little miss decided to spend the afternoon almost naked. By the way, she has a Lego in her cheek in the first picture (I found it after snapping the photo), and is dancing in the last one.

The theme for the fourteenth week of the photo challenge is Fools. When I read it on Sunday, I thought to myself, "This should be easy."

Ruff Around the Edges

It's the name of the quilt pattern I chose when I was pregnant with Jack. Dennis's mom began quilting a few years before we got married and does an amazing job: all by hand. She created a beautiful, queen-size quilt for Dennis and me as a wedding gift and has made quilts for most of her fourteen grandchildren. It has taken her about five years to finish Jack's (she's a busy woman), but it was worth the wait. Wouldn't you agree?

This week, Stelly Bean gets to share the spotlight with her big brother Jack. They both love to play with my keyboard and mouse whenever they get a chance. Jack, though, can find his way to PBSKids or Lego's website. Stella just wreaks havoc.

Just Like the Big Girls

One day, Bridget put a "ponytail" in Stella's hair. Now, Stella wants one or two or three in her hair everyday. She also thinks the non-toxic, red nail polish we picked up at the natural foods store yesterday looks pretty sweet on her fingertips and toes.

A Treasured Friendship

The blonde woman in these wedding photos is my dear friend Anne. She turns 43 years old today. She's just a smitch less than two months younger than me. At some point during second or third grade, we became best friends. We have shared dinners and recess snacks, magazines and suntan lotion, trips to the coast of Maine and Ambajejus Lake, letters and books, hugs and tears, wedding days and our children's reception of the sacraments.

Happy Birthday, Anna Banana. I love you.

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh," he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw, "I just wanted to be sure of you."”

Underneath the Lid

This week's theme for the photo challenge is Underneath, so I took photos of what I found underneath the lid of my brand new tin of Derwent Coloursoft Pencils. I put those pencils to paper shortly after acquiring them on Tuesday. You can see what I created here.

Here's the Recipe

Chocolate Honey Cake with Whipped Cream and Chocolate Shavings
(Gluten Free and Eggless)

1/2 Cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla

1 Cup sugar
3/4 Cups honey
1 and 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
4 Tbsp. sour cream
2 Cups Better Batter Gluten-Free Flour
2 Cups milk
1/2 Cup cocoa powder

In the bowl of a mixer, combine butter, vanilla, sugar and honey. Beat until smooth. Add baking soda, baking powder and sour cream. Beat just until combined. Add one cup of flour and one cup of milk. Beat until combined. Add second cup of flour, beating until combined. Add cocoa powder and second cup of milk. Beat on low until combined, then on high for about a minute. Scrape bowl with rubber spatula and pour into greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick. When cake is cooled, cut into 24 squares and top each with a dollop of whipped cream and shaved chocolate.

I try to limit the photos in each post to five, but I got so many great shots of Stella (in the hat Bridget just knit for herself) enjoying Chocolate Honey Cake with Whipped Cream and Chocolate Shavings (recipe tomorrow, perhaps), that I can't help myself.

Go Elsewhere

To another one of my blogs, I mean. After nearly three years, Dennis and I have decided that it's time to finish the last renovation and start a new one. We will, once again, be chronicling our progress at Sanctuary and Sanity. Go on, click the link and visit. The photos above are hints of what you'll see there.

Little Stelly Bean did not nap today. She briefly slept this evening. Although she seems to have gotten a second wind, she was still tired enough a little while ago to put her head on Dennis's shoulder and snuggle with him. He was even lucky enough to get kisses from his little girl.
