Luke, Post Pass

I took a few shots of Luke throwing a football. This was the best.

In Flight

When we were at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Dennis got this photo of Sam looking like a small, plain-clothes superhero.

Holy Rusted Metal, Batman!

The back portion of this sculpture reminds me of "The Scream" by Munsch. My favorite thing about this photo, though, is that it gives me the opportunity to title a post "Holy Rusted Metal, Batman!"

Freckles and Kisses

Jack doesn't seem especially happy about getting this kiss from Bridget, but I love the hint of a smile and the freckles on Bridget's face.

Left Foot, Left Foot, Left Foot, Right

Henry's soccer game provided many great photo ops., but few of them were on the field. Maranacook Community School (where the game was played) has a "sculpture garden" consisting of large, upright granite slabs and metal contraptions. Jack liked sitting high on a granite monolith with Bridget.

Reflecting the green of his jacket, Sam's eyes are not nearly as vibrant as they normally are. Perhaps I should buy him only blue shirts and jackets from now on.

I like this half photo of Henry, who is very focused on kicking the soccer ball during warm-up for his game.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Caddie may look like she's laughing, but she's crying on the inside.

Happy to Be Five

In this photo taken by Dennis, Sam looks absolutely gleeful about being five, getting to eat cake, or, more likely, the goofy face Luke is no doubt making. Then there's Jack ...

Happy Birthday, Sam

Sam is five years old today. When he woke up this morning, Henry wished him a happy birthday, and Sam replied, "Am I five today? I was four yesterday." He still has that frog. Dennis brought it to the hospital for him the day after he was born. He still has a sweet grin that looks something like that. Generally, his eyes are open a bit, though. Sometimes, when he smiles like that, he asks, "Do I look like Frodo?" Oh yes, Sam, you do, but your personality is a bit more like Pippin's.

Happy Birthday, Sweetie. I love you very much.

Jack is growing so fast: getting taller, leaner, growing more hair. I'm glad his hands haven't completely lost their chubby, baby-hand look.

Those Eyes

This picture of Luke and Jack leaves me at a loss for words.

Stick to It

Jack enjoyed the Tootsie Pop that Bridget bought for him at Sam's soccer game last night. I got many shots of his happy, sticky, drooly face, but this one -- in which he and Bridget are touching sticks -- is especially good.

In All Seriousness

I wonder what's going through Sam's mind as he stands next to one of the many girls on his soccer team. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the girl, and probably nothing to do with soccer.

Water's Edge

It's not a true silhouette, but it's certainly got that feel to it. I could crop out that half-Dennis, but I like the symbolism. As far as the kids are concerned, Daddy's not in the picture; they are free to explore. In reality, Dennis is in the picture, watching over his kids.

First Blush

My Red Siberian Tomatoes have FINALLY started to turn RED. (I planted them late, remember?) So far, just two tomatoes have started blushing, but I am optimistic about the rest.

I'm also happy with this photo. I've recently started using the manual focus on the camera, along with manually adjusting the f-stop and exposure.

Waiting for a Bus?

No. Dennis is waiting for his wife to stop photographing flowers and start exploring the miles of Botanical Gardens, and Luke is just doing what his dad does.

By Any Other Name

This lovely pink rose stood out from its neighbors at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. A trip there yesterday was the second field trip of the school year. I had hoped to do some nature study -- drawing some of the flora we encountered, but the kids will have to draw from the photos we took. Everyone was just having too much fun exploring in the woods, throwing stones into the river, splashing in the granite basin of the meditation garden, posing with the "Death Star" and climbing all over the granite monoliths.

Dennis looks the part with that hat on his head. If you look closely at the bottom of the frame, you'll see a geode jumping from the force of the hammer that just hit it. (Try clicking on the photo to enlarge it.) Neither the hammer nor hammer/screwdriver combination (Dennis wouldn't let us use his good chisels) worked at cracking open the two geodes Luke and Bridget bought at the rock and mineral show. Luke eventually got them opened with a sledgehammer and discovered the treasure: fine white crystals in one and coffee-brown crystals in the other.
