It was a warm, rainy, allergy-aggravating day, but we needed to get outside for at least a little while.  Stella (67 weeks old) walked to and fro in the driveway (sometimes with a large water gun in her hands, sometimes not), sat in the wet grass, threw leaves over her shoulder, and got just wet enough to merit a warm shower.

Personality to Spare

The other day, I was working on a lesson with Sam when Jack walked up behind me and said, "Mom, look at me."  I did and immediately burst out laughing.  Jack is a cutie with more personality than he knows what to do with.

Autumn and Apples

It is Autumn; there were apples on the counter, gluten-free flour in the jar, and rain in the air.  Such an occasion called for one thing:  apple dumplings.

At 66 weeks, Stella is a girl on the move.  She's walking a lot, is good at letting everyone know what she wants and what she doesn't want, and has become quite the tower builder and tower destroyer.  At her fifteen-month checkup yesterday, she weighed 23.12 pounds (60th percentile) and measured 32.25 inches tall (92nd percentile).

O.K. Stella is 65 weeks old, and she becomes less like a baby and more like a little girl every day.  She walks, she yammers (doesn't really say anything, but she can let out a string of blah-blah-yah-yah-blub-blubs that sounds like they should mean something).  She giggles and yells and laughs, and when she's not acting like a little tyrant, she's downright delightful.

Sam is Seven

Today is Sam's birthday.  He got to play Wii instead of doing lessons.  He talked nonsense and made strange noises over the phone to his cousin Zachary, who is also seven.  He stuffed himself with two helpings of spaghetti and four meatballs.  He found room for most of the ice cream cake I served him.  He made Dennis and Luke and Bridget and Henry and Jack and Stella and me happy to have him in our lives.

A Sister's Gift

Bridget's knitting needles have been flying as of late, and Stella is the recipient of her sister's latest accomplishment.  Isn't that an adorable sweater?  Stella seems to love it as much as I do.  She didn't want to take it off at bedtime last night, and asked for it first thing this morning.  Oh, and Bridget created that soft, pink confection in a mere three days.

When Stella crawls into the bathroom, the first thing she does is head for the scale.  She sits or stands on it.  I think she's a little young to be so concerned about her weight, but so be it.  The second thing she does in the bathroom is climb into the shower and reach for the scrub brush, so she can do some cleaning.  I don't think this is her way of telling me what she thinks of my housekeeping, but you never know.

Child Number Three

Yesterday was the start of the soccer season, so we spent some of the morning out near the fields.  After Henry's game, he spent some time with Stella and me.  I'm quite happy with the shots I got of my handsome young lad.

The Little Miss is 64 weeks old today.  She was crying a moment ago, but is now laughing and smiling, because Dennis has aimed the camera at her.  She loves being in front of it.  I took these shots this morning.  After Stella put down the phone, she and I played Peek-A-Boo.

Friday Fun with Friends

My longtime friend Anne and her family (minus Sydney, who's at college) visited on Friday and stayed overnight.  It was a loud, wacky and entertaining visit.  The highlight of the evening was provided by the Photo Booth application on Anne's Macbook.  You can see some of the results above.

Miss Stella is 63 weeks old.  She, like her mom, is a fan of chocolate.  Luckily for us, Dennis met with  representatives from the marketing department of Hershey's yesterday and brought home many treats.

A Cool Time-Out

Temperatures and tempers were hot this afternoon, and we all needed to chill.  Caddie and I went out front and turned on the hose.  Within minutes, all of the kids, minus Luke (who was preparing for golf practice), were outside and soaking wet.
