Today is Sam's birthday. He got to play Wii instead of doing lessons. He talked nonsense and made strange noises over the phone to his cousin Zachary, who is also seven. He stuffed himself with two helpings of spaghetti and four meatballs. He found room for most of the ice cream cake I served him. He made Dennis and Luke and Bridget and Henry and Jack and Stella and me happy to have him in our lives.
