Look Out, Ladies

I love the smile on Handsome Henry: it's exactly the same in each photo.

Shhh... Don't Tell the Doctor

Bridget is on restricted physical activity at least until she sees her cardiologist next week. The sun, snow and relative warmth beckoned, though. We all spent time outside, but Bridget took it easy. She simply walked around, climbed a snowbank or two and slid down, sculpted some snow and yelled at Luke when he threw snowballs at her.

The Snowy Day

Henry, and
Jack took advantage of the wet, heavy snow that last night's storm brought (and it brought a lot). Henry and Sam dug in behind ramparts to protect themselves from Luke's onslaught. When Jack lost a boot, he surrendered and headed back to the home front.

Five-Unit Snack

This was Bridget's afternoon snack: a Koala Crisp Bar with peanut butter and m&m's; pretzel dots (gf pretzels with partially melted Hershey's Kisses and m&m's) and m&m's. Total carbs for this pastel palette of yumminess = 50 grams, which means 5 units of insulin to get those carbs where they need to go. She washed it all down with a cup of white tea splashed with milk (essentially carb free).

Out the Window

Looking out the window of my studio this morning, I noticed the deep blue of the cloudless sky and the shapes of the nearly naked tree. I like the way the intersecting lines of the window frame and break up the image of the tree.

After all that Bridget's been through -- diabetic ketoacidosis that put her in PICU at Maine Medical Center -- I look back at this most recent photo for clues about what was to come. She doesn't look especially good: the shiners under her eyes, which also look slightly sunken, and a thinness to her face that wasn't there a few months ago. At this point, though, looking back is unimportant. Bridget's on the mend, we're figuring things out and dealing with what life sends our way.

For Sweet Baby Will

After a very long battle with cancer and a very short life, Brave Will Hladun, who was born on 14 July 2008, is now free of pain. From the guestbook entries at his CaringBridge site, it appears that he died about 2:00 this afternoon. It's funny: at 2:00, I looked out the kitchen window and saw a bald eagle flying over the field behind our backyard (I had never seen one before), and I thought, "Maybe that's Sweet Baby Will soaring up to Heaven." Here's another funny thing: I fell very much in love with someone I had never met.

Modeling Debut

Jack models the bracelet I made for my Goddaughter Sydney, who recently turned 17. Below is a closeup of the bracelet.

A Page for Luke

Wasn't he a cute baby? The pink hearts at the bottom of the page are stamped and embossed on a clear transparency designed for laser printers, and the floating hearts between the two photos were created with a brass stencil, pearlescent embossing paint and Ranger Perfect Pearls.

Slightly Tattered

I like the imperfections of this rose. It's still a beauty.

Scarlet Spirals

Dennis gave me 15 roses for our 15th anniversary. He's always been good with numbers.
