Who Knew?

I just posted this photo over at The Family Memory Keeper, and had to re-post it here, because I can't get over how much Stella looks like my sister, Maureen. That's her in pink (there are many pictures of her in that outfit; it was so dang cute), and before seeing this picture, I never noticed the resemblance. (I can't believe that Dennis doesn't see it.) I'm in the middle (or is that Jack?), and Tom is wearing the red shirt (obviously).

Five Rosebushes So Far

Last year, I decided that I wanted to plant one rosebush for each year we've lived in this crazy house of ours. Thus far, I've purchased and planted five. I need two more to catch up, as we took up residence here in May of 2005. Here are some of the beauties that greeted me today.

I decided that I looked good enough today to attempt some self-portraits. Stella found me and the camera upstairs, and I invited her to get in on the action. She even took some of her own self-portraits with the remote control. Soon enough, Jack joined us.

Blueberry Biscuits

I came across an interesting recipe in the April issue of Better Homes and Gardens and gave it a try this evening. Creating biscuits with gluten-free flour is tricky, to say the least. This caught my eye, because it calls for no eggs and uses whipping cream instead of butter. The idea of the cream is to keep mixing to a minimum. The finished product was delicious, but a bit doughy. I'll try these again (maybe without the blueberries), but separate them before baking, so each biscuit has a better chance to cook through. I'm not exactly looking for flaky, just biscuit flavor. Beneath the blueberries, I think the flavor was there.

My Cluttered Life

This is the counter above the washer and dryer in my laundry room/studio. It's terribly cluttered, but it's a situation that should soon be remedied. My cabinetry estimate was very reasonable, and that makes me happy. To read more about it, please head over to Sanctuary and Sanity.

Oh, and while you're  flitting about through cyberspace, please head over to Rose from a Rock, where Bridget has published a new post.

Familiar Face

I see this Big Boy on every drive to and from the golf course. He resides in the parking lot of an empty building that used to house Big Boyz Cycles. I sometimes imagine buying him, having him trucked to the house, and placing him next to it, where can stand sentinel or just attract a lot of attention (not that an orange house doesn't attract enough attention already).

Golf All the Time

Dennis requested a golf net for his birthday, so I obliged. Now, he and the boys practice their drives out on the deck. Oh, and here's the latest on Luke's tournament play: he finished the USGA Junior Am qualifier somewhere in the middle of the pack with an 86 and 83; his 78 in the New England Principal's Assn. tournament in Keene, NH, left him in the middle of the pack; and in last week's MESGA Juinior Tour tournament in Falmouth, he finished fifth, with a score of 81. His next tournament is Wednesday at Belgrade Lakes.

No Takers

Yesterday, I met with a local cabinetmaker to discuss cabinetry for my studio/laundry room. To prepare for his visit, I cleaned up and cleaned out. Before today's crazy thunderstorm, I put some unwanted furniture out by the road. Unfortunately, it remained unwanted, and Henry and I hauled it all back in the house before the rain arrived.

Good for Climbing

Last year, I bought a climbing rosebush and planted it. This year, I gave it something to climb by pulling the ratty old upholstery off one of two chairs I bought long ago at a yard sale, spray painting the naked chair, and placing it in the flowerbed. I love the look, and I love the roses, which smell wonderful.

Three Years Old

Today is Stella's birthday. My little girl is three years old. Grandma and Grandpa helped us celebrate the big day at their house.

Beware the Rooster

Luke has a tournament in Keene, NH, and played a practice round there today. We made base camp at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Sam thought it would be fun to chase a rooster. Apparently, the rooster wasn't thrilled with the idea, and he spent the rest of the day charging whoever happened by.

Brother and Sister

Sam generally has no problem asserting himself, but when it comes to Stella, he just melts.

A Twitter-view

Interested in "A Year of Poetic Images," the 365-day photography project I recently concluded, my Faith-Filled Photographers partner Jessica asked if she could interview me using Twitter. I was game and enjoyed the challenge of answering each of her questions in only 140 characters. We published the finished interview here.

Stella helped me put together a bouquet of flowers from the yard. She loves transferring glass pebbles from one vase to another. In the last picture, she's showing off her taco tongue, something she loves to do when the camera is trained on her. She also likes to give kisses when her face is covered with chocolate or milk or whatever she's been eating. She says, "Dirty kiss vs. clean kiss," then puckers up.
