Thursdays

Today, Stella decided that a bathing suit was in order. She also got excited about my felt ribbon, which she thought made a perfect scarf to accompany some dramatic statements (most of which don't make much sense but include big words like "appetize"). Then, of course, there's the yellow duck umbrella ...

Speed Stacks

Each of the kids got a set of Speed Stacks stacking cups for Christmas. The kitchen has been louder and the counter more cluttered ever since. Dennis, Luke, Henry and Sam have shown more interest than anyone else, but Jack will get there. Here are their records, so far: Dennis, 16.25 sec.; Luke, 13.51 sec.; Henry, 12.12 sec.; Sam, 15.07 sec.; Jack, 1 minute, 40.60 sec.

Focus on Guitars

Dennis's latest musical acquisition arrived today: an Epiphone Les Paul. He bought it from a guy on a guitar forum. It needed a little attention (which Dennis knew going in), so he got to work as soon as he was able to get away from his computer. On Saturday, he decided that it was time to finally tackle (again) the veneering on the guitar he and Henry are making. And Henry drew a guitar. I'm feeling like I need to get in on the six-string action. Maybe I should attempt another Hamer. I could use acrylics or colored pencils this time. Of course, I'd have to pick a different model. Dennis sold Sally long ago.

A Girl that I Love

Bridget never ceases to amaze me. Last week, she whipped up two berets (one with beads) ordered by a friend, then she knit an infinity scarf for me (it's there on her neck, beneath that cool, slouchy hat she made for herself a few months ago), and yesterday, she wrote a beautiful blog post over at Bridges to Cross (where she has also posted some good movie reviews). I won't even get started on how wonderful she is with her younger siblings, especially Stella (she's not bad with her older brother, either), and how well she manages her diabetes. But please, head on over to Bridges to Cross, and see for yourself.

And It's Still Snowing

The snow started falling yesterday afternoon and has not abated yet. We've gotten about a foot, so far, but you know what they say: when life hands you snow, make sledding runs down the driveway (or something like that).

Up All Night

Last night, Luke, Bridget and Henry went to the annual All-Nighter at the YMCA with a church group they belong to. They swam, played dodgeball, participated in team challenges, and had an all-around great time. Dennis picked them up at 5 a.m., and they each slept until 12:30 or later.

Snow Tunnel

Over the past week or so, Henry, Sam and Jack have worked at creating a snow tunnel in the backyard. This afternoon, Stella joined Henry and Sam and helped out.

Thursdays

Believe it or not, Stella actually asked me to take her picture tonight.

Works in Progress

I found this pile of stuff next to the couch this afternoon. It belongs to Bridget. The knitwear in progress is an infinity scarf she's making for me.

A Little Off the Top

I don't like cutting hair, but the boys were looking so shaggy, I suggested getting out the scissors and clippers. Sam was the only hold-out.

As of Late

My interests come and go in waves. As of late, I've been purchasing magazines published by Stampington & Co. (like Somerset Studio), and they've been egging me on to paint. Last week, though, a box arrived in the mail, and it was filled with back issues of Photoshop Creative: a lovely, thoughtful gift from my lovely, thoughtful Call and Response partner, Jessica. Where will this lead?

A Lifetime Ago

This assorted detritus provides a glimpse into my younger years (mainly high school and college).

Playing House

Today's Call had me stumped for the better part of the day, but the light of inspiration finally shone early this evening. I constructed a house from Keva Planks (and a book) to photograph, and when I was finished with it, Stella (and Luke) moved in.
