The Many Faces of Jack

These are just some of the shots I got of my very expressive almost-three-year-old when we brought his sister to the doctor's office yesterday.

Two-tone

Jack and I took Bridget to the pediatrician's office, because she was feeling like perhaps her brothers' cases of strep throat had caught up with her. While waiting for the test results (they turned out to be negative), Bridget did a good job of keeping Jack entertained. A nook in a corner of the exam room was ideal for a game of peek-a-boo.

A Trio of Looks

For some reason, my Christmas cactus is blooming now. Using an open f/stop, an ISO of 200 and various exposure times, I captured some interesting images. I love how the lines from the screen's shadow add texture to the flower's petals.

Concentration

When Sam's playing Lego Racers online, it's hard to distract him.

A Girl and Her Supplies

The other night, when Bridget and I decided that she should have her own blog about living with diabetes, I got out the camera in order to create some visual fodder for "Monitoring Me: a Blog of Bridget's Own." We didn't use this photo in her blog, but she looks good posing with her insulin pen, test strips, lancet device and blood glucose monitor. She got the pink camo bag in the hospital, a pharmaceutical perk from Elie Lilly Co., and goes nowhere without it.

My Handsome Husband

Dennis and I have been through a lot these past couple of months. There were times that brought out the worst in us, but, thankfully, those were balanced by the times in which we were at our best with each other. This is nothing new; our 15 years of marriage have brought many instances of better and worse. For now, though, I'm hoping -- and working -- to keep this better time going for as long as possible.

A Cup of Tea

At about 3:00, nearly every afternoon; it's the time I take for me. The cups I use for teatime are bigger than this one, but they are all bone china. As Dad taught me, tea in anything else is just not the same. Years ago, I bought this little beauty (printed with forget-me-nots, I think) along with it's matching saucer and dessert plate at an antiques store in Concord, NH. I see it everyday in the antique store display cabinet that commands my studio. The cups and saucers I inherited from my mother (some real beauties) are, unfortunately, in a box kept out of reach. I have no safe place to display those. The items in the above-mentioned cabinet get handled by Jack on a fairly regular basis, so Mom's precious china cannot go there.
