Ruffing Hood

Jack spends lots of time drawing. He's working on a couple of different storylines, including one about a Robin-Hood-type character.

Plenty to Do

The kids received enough nifty Christmas gifts to keep them entertained for quite sometime.

Monday, December 29, 2014

It was colder than it looked today, but that didn't stop Stella from staying outside as long as possible.

Trying out a new reflector stand seems like a perfect opportunity to throw around some glitter.

Saturday, December 27, 2014

It was a good day for wandering in the backyard.

Friday, December 26, 2014

Dennis and I got these Mashoonga swords for Jack and Henry, but all of the kids are having fun with them.

On Christmas Day in the Morning

We get out of bed awfully early: about 4:30 this year.

Stella has finished making and wrapping most of her gifts.

Christmas Scene

Stella is seldom bored.

The Glittered Shell

One of the things I enjoy about Christmas is remembering where we acquired each of our ornaments. This one was purchased in Laguna Beach, California, when Dennis and I went there, in October of 1995, for a friend's wedding.

Around and Around

The bittersweet vines are tenacious, but honestly, that doesn't really bother me.

Welcome Back

We were all happy to see the sun today.

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Stella is looking forward to Christmas.

The Angel Goes on Top

We had hoped to have the family room finished by now, but we have to settle for almost. The tree went up in there tonight.

A Little Scraped Up

When Jack was sledding with his friends yesterday, the sled stopped, but his face didn't.

Make Yourself Comfortable

It's nice to see the local wildlife enjoying their meals.

Watching for the Light

At this time of year, around 4 pm, I take notice of where the sunlight falls.

Eight Feet Tall

Henry is now taller than me, but he looks kind of small next to this big, snowy guy.

Which Way is Up?

There are times when I feel like I live in an upside-down world.

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Stella decided to go with a silly face this week.

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Table Tennis

I cleaned off the top of the coffee table the other day, so the kids have started using it for ping pong.

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Tight Squeeze

They don't need a lot of room to have fun.

Monday, December 8, 2014

Sandwich Maker

Jack and Stella got hungry after dinner.

Cookies by Sam

Sam's Club has started carrying a gluten-free brownie mix that contains no tapioca starch and no zanthan gum, so I can eat treats made with it, and Sam has become the go-to guy for turning the mix into chocolatey brownies or chewy cookies.

A Little Hard to Focus

Christmas shopping leaves my studio a shambles.

A Big Guy

This is one of the four blue jays that have come to call. Watching them interact with one another is quite entertaining.

Thursday, December 4, 2014

I bought some new gloves and mittens for the kids today. Stella seems to like hers.

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

Outdoor Café

The birds in our neighborhood know where to come for good food and good service.

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Stella and Jack started a game of chess this afternoon, but they abandoned it before things got too intense.

A Regular

About a week ago, I took the screens off the front windows in my studio, moved a table and chairs to the garden area right outside the windows, and served up some birdseed. Thus far, we've been visited by chickadees, tufted titmouses/titmice, blue jays, dark-eyed juncos, least flycatchers, blue-headed vireos, black and white warblers, sparrows of some sort, and a cardinal couple. (Props to my bird IDing partner, Henry.) Oh, and this is a photo of a tufted titmouse.
