Nest

This was the home of a very active community of bald-faced hornets. It got built on a wall of what remains of the back porch and was nicely sheltered by a profusion of bittersweet vines. At its widest point, the nest measured 9 inches. When temperatures began dropping, the wasps (bald-faced hornets are actually wasps) did likewise.
