Part of my Thanksgiving Day was spent watching Dennis and his father take down the very tall, very dead pine tree that has been standing in the middle of our backyard. Dennis leaned the ladder against the tree and wrapped a cable around it. He and his father attached the other end of the cable to a come-along winch (brought up from New Hampshire especially for the occasion) and another tree (that happened to be nowhere near the house). My father-in-law went to work on the pine tree with the chain saw, Dennis ratcheted the come-along, and ... the tree came along down to the ground with a very loud BOOM.
