Another Painful Encounter
This time, it was for Caddie. Last night, she decided to tangle with a porcupine she met in our backyard. It was not a good idea. Apparently, she wasn't the only one who made such a bad decision, though. When I called the emergency vet hospital, I learned that three other dogs and a cat were in — under general anesthesia — getting quills removed. Since it would've been an agonizing, 40-minute drive for Caddie, we decided to try pulling the quills ourselves. Thankfully, Caddie was wonderful about it, even though each pull caused lots of pain. There were more than a hundred of them. The ones inside her mouth, including one that pierced her tongue, were the most difficult to get out. The rest were in her chest and snout. I think Dennis and I got every single one, except one embedded under the skin where her right, front leg meets her chest. It's still very painful for her. It should work itself out, but I may take her to her regular vet tomorrow.
